A Senate Functional Committee on Human Rights meeting in Islamabad became heated following a dispute between PML-N Senator Abid Sher Ali and ANP chief Senator Aimal Wali Khan during questioning of Suthra Punjab officials regarding the death of a worker from the Gujranwala Waste Management Company (GWMC). The worker allegedly died by suicide after receiving incomplete salary payments and facing contract termination. Senator Khan’s assertive questioning prompted an objection from Senator Ali, who criticized his tone, leading to a verbal exchange. Officials stated the worker was employed by GWMC from 2024 to 2025, with his contract expiring on May 31, 2026, and the incident occurring after his employment ended. Discrepancies emerged regarding salary payments, with the CEO of GWMC, Abdul Razaque Ali Dogar, asserting full payments were made, while Senator Khan alleged the worker only received half. Committee members also raised concerns about Suthra Punjab’s use of third-party hiring for cleaning staff and the implementation of the Suthra Punjab Act in 2026.
