The body of Pakistani climber Asma Mushtaq has been recovered from Spantik Peak in Gilgit-Baltistan, nearly ten days after she died from high-altitude sickness. Mushtaq, 34, summited the 7,027-metre peak with a team of female climbers on August 20th but fell ill during the descent. Initial recovery attempts were hindered by heavy snowfall, prompting a new mission by a volunteer team from Shigar. The five-member team located her body near Camp 3 at approximately 6,250 meters after an eight-hour search. The recovery was a self-funded operation by local mountaineers. Authorities plan to transport the body to Skardu via Pakistan Army helicopters after it reaches base camp. Mushtaq’s death highlights the dangers of high-altitude climbing and the importance of acclimatization.
