The Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) claims negotiations with the central government failed due to the Centre’s demand for unilateral counter-terrorism measures in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK). PTI Secretary General Salman Akram Raja stated the opposition delegation, including the Tehreek-i-Tahafuz-i-Ayin-i-Pakistan (TTAP), insisted that any anti-terrorism actions in KPK must be agreed upon by both the federal and KPK governments. The PTI-TTAP team sought consultation with all political parties represented in the KP Assembly to avoid civilian casualties and displacement. The Centre, however, maintained that the KPK government must accept actions initiated unilaterally by the federal government. The PTI affirmed its commitment to eliminating terrorism while emphasizing the need for local support and intelligence, referencing a jirga held in the KP Assembly advocating for central government consultation with the KPK government regarding Afghan policy. Information Minister Attaulla Tarar has conversely accused the KPK government of “supporting” terrorism.
