The Supreme Court of Pakistan will lift austerity measures implemented in March 2026, effective June 15, 2026. These measures, including a four-day work week for courts and reduced fuel allowances, were originally enacted due to disruptions in petroleum supplies linked to the Iran-US conflict and the resulting global energy crisis. The decision follows an easing of the situation and a notification issued with the approval of Chief Justice Yahya Afridi. The National Judicial Policy Making Committee (NJPMC) also considered proposals to restore a six-day work week for the district judiciary, acknowledging the initial measures were part of a broader energy conservation strategy. The NJPMC appreciated government support in navigating the energy crisis. The original austerity measures mirrored those adopted by other government institutions following the initial announcement by the federal government.
