Pakistan is experiencing increased international recognition due to its recent diplomatic efforts, particularly in mediating between the US, Iran, and Gulf nations. This newfound prominence presents an opportunity to bolster the nation’s higher education sector, which is facing growing demand from a large and youthful population. University enrollment in Pakistan has increased by over 50% in the last decade, with a rising number of students participating in transnational education programs with UK universities. The country already possesses a substantial higher education infrastructure, with over 260 universities and degree-awarding institutions. However, the focus is now shifting towards strategic connections to regional mobility, research partnerships, and employment opportunities. New legislation from the Higher Education Commission and the Punjab provincial government aims to attract greater international university involvement, alongside a revised transnational education policy. These developments signal a push to leverage Pakistan’s diplomatic success into tangible benefits for its citizens and regional development.
