The Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) has launched a unified digital framework designed to streamline investor onboarding into the nation’s capital market. This initiative aims to reduce redundancies in verification processes, simplify required documentation, and establish clear timelines for account openings. “Sehl/Sahulat” accounts will now be processed within one business day, while standard accounts will be completed within two. Investors will receive tracking IDs and clear communication regarding any deficiencies or rejections. The SECP intends to broaden retail participation, especially among young people, with a goal of reaching 2.5 million investors. SECP Chairman Dr. Kabir Ahmed Sidhu emphasized the initiative’s focus on removing barriers to entry and leveraging technology for a more accessible investor experience. The standardized framework applies to various financial intermediaries, ensuring a consistent experience across the sector.
