Pakistan’s government has increased petrol prices by Rs5.44 and diesel by Rs31.05 per litre, effective immediately for three days, citing increased import costs and global price hikes linked to escalating regional tensions. Petrol now costs Rs316.15 per litre, while diesel is priced at Rs354.35. The adjustments follow a period of fluctuating prices, with both fuels peaking earlier in April due to the US-Iran conflict. In a significant shift, the government will now implement daily fuel price adjustments to reflect international market volatility. Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik announced the change, placing the responsibility for price determination with the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra). Ogra will also publish the factors influencing these decisions for transparency. Currently, the government levies approximately Rs105 per litre in taxes, including customs duty and levies.
