A prayer leader in Chakwal, Pakistan, has been arrested following accusations of raping a 10-year-old girl. Police were attempting to arrest the suspect when he allegedly tried to flee, falling and causing a pistol tucked into his waistband to discharge, resulting in his injury. The First Information Report (FIR) was registered on July 28th based on the girl’s account, detailing an alleged assault after a Quran lesson at a local mosque. The complainant stated the girl was asked to stay behind after other children were dismissed and was subsequently raped and threatened. The suspect allegedly threatened the victim with a knife if she revealed the assault. The incident has sparked outrage and the investigation is ongoing as authorities pursue the case under Pakistan’s Penal Code for rape.
