A terrorist attack on a police checkpost in Hangu district, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, resulted in the martyrdom of nine police officers, including a deputy superintendent, and left 28 others injured on Wednesday. The attack was attributed to Fitna al Khawarij, a designation used by the state for the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). Despite an initial brave response from the stationed personnel and subsequent reinforcements, the police were ambushed, damaging an armored vehicle. According to authorities, fifteen terrorists were killed in the ensuing exchange of fire, with more sustaining injuries. A separate, smaller attack occurred at a police checkpost in Peshawar’s Adezai area, but no officers were harmed. Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi condemned the Hangu attack and extended condolences to the families of the deceased, vowing to continue the fight against terrorism in the province.
