Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has instructed the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) to maximize assistance to citizens affected by recent floods. The directive came during a meeting with NDMA Chairman Lieutenant General Inam Haider Malik, emphasizing the full utilization of available resources. Coordination with provincial authorities and disaster management agencies is also a priority. The NDMA reported 155 deaths and 460 injuries resulting from rain-related incidents between June 26 and August 14. Relief operations are ongoing in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Azad Jammu and Kashmir, leveraging both conventional methods and modern technologies like artificial intelligence. Authorities are bracing for continued risks as monsoon season, vital for water supplies, frequently brings destructive flooding.
