Pakistan’s government has announced reductions in petrol and diesel prices, effective Saturday, June 13th. Petrol prices were decreased by Rs4 per litre to Rs373.78, while diesel saw a reduction of Rs2 per litre, settling at Rs378.78. This marks the fifth consecutive week of petrol price decreases, totaling a Rs41 per litre reduction overall. The government continues to levy significant taxes on both fuels, approximately Rs125 per litre on petrol and Rs100 per litre on diesel, encompassing duties and levies. These adjustments are made weekly, previously linked to geopolitical factors, including the now-paused US-Israeli war on Iran. Petrol primarily impacts middle and lower-middle class consumers, while diesel is crucial for the heavy transport and power generation sectors. The price revisions reflect ongoing efforts to manage fuel costs within the country’s economic landscape.
