The Pakistani government has announced a minor reduction in fuel prices, decreasing petrol by Rs0.58 per litre to Rs342.02 and high-speed diesel (HSD) by Rs0.17 per litre to Rs371.44. These revised prices are effective from August 29th to August 31st. Despite the decrease, substantial taxes remain, with Rs114 per litre levied on petrol and Rs100 on diesel. The price adjustments follow a period of significant fluctuations linked to international market volatility, particularly influenced by tensions between the US and Iran. Previously, both petrol and HSD had reached peaks in April, triggered by the onset of conflict. The government has shifted to a daily price adjustment mechanism, granting the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra) responsibility for responding to international market trends.
