Pakistani security forces strongly retaliated against unprovoked firing from the Afghan Taliban targeting border posts in Kurram. The Taliban initiated the aggression using heavy weaponry, prompting an immediate and forceful response from Pakistani forces who targeted Taliban posts and positions with artillery and other arms. As a result of the counter-offensive, the Taliban were forced to abandon several posts and retreat. This latest incident follows a pattern of cross-border attacks, including previous attempts to assault border posts and fire on civilian areas resulting in casualties. Pakistan launched ‘Operation Ghazab lil-Haq’ in February following earlier attacks, claiming hundreds of Taliban and terrorist operatives have been killed or injured. Security forces maintain control of the border area and remain on high alert, prepared to respond to further provocation. Islamabad has consistently raised concerns regarding these attacks.
