Taiwanese tech tycoon T.H. Tung, chairman of Hon Hai Precision Industry (Foxconn), has publicly urged the government to expedite its support for the nation's space program. Tung criticized the slow pace of governmental action and called for a more proactive approach to fostering space technology development. The National Science and Technology Council (NSTC) has responded by proposing the creation of a “private space fund” – a first for Taiwan – to encourage investment and innovation in the sector. This fund aims to leverage private capital to supplement government resources and accelerate progress. Tung emphasized the importance of Taiwan establishing a stronger foothold in the space industry to maintain its technological competitiveness. He cited the potential for significant economic benefits and national security advantages. The proposed fund represents a shift toward a public-private partnership model for space exploration and development in Taiwan.
