Oslo’s public transport authority, Ruter, has reintroduced electric scooter rentals via its mobile app after a suspension of over a year. The service was halted due to concerns about underage riders, including an incident where a 12-year-old was hospitalized following an accident. Ruter has now implemented age verification through the Vipps mobile payment system to prevent unauthorized rentals. The minimum age to rent a scooter has been lowered to 15 or 16 years old, depending on the specific scooter provider. This change aims to balance accessibility with improved safety measures. Ruter spokesperson Knut-Martin Løken confirmed the new system to NRK, highlighting the focus on responsible scooter use within the city. The reintroduction offers a convenient transportation option for eligible residents and visitors.
