New hospital projects in Oslo, including the new Rikshospitalet and the Aker hospital, are facing significantly increased costs. Initial estimates placed the total cost at approximately 55 billion kroner, but this figure did not account for potential uncertainties. A recent analysis indicates that incorporating a 15-18% uncertainty margin could raise the total cost to over 63 billion kroner. Helse Sør-Øst, the regional health authority, now projects a potential total cost of up to 64 billion kroner in a new board report. This revised estimate exceeds the originally approved budget for the projects. The cost increases are raising concerns about financial management and project oversight for the major healthcare infrastructure developments. The projects are currently underway, with groundwork at Rikshospitalet begun two months ago and construction at Aker ongoing for about a year.
