The municipality of Oldebroek is experiencing tension surrounding Coming Out Day after the local council, comprised of the Christelijk Verbond Oldebroek (CVO), the SGP, and Algemeen Belang Oldebroek (ABO), decided to discontinue LGBTQ+ policies and cease flying the rainbow flag at the town hall. Despite this decision, Mayor Tanja Haseloop-Amsing will attend a rainbow flag raising ceremony at the Kruiskerk, asserting her independent role as mayor and her commitment to community cohesion. Local pastor Han Wilmink emphasized the importance of this year’s event, stating the council’s policy sends a message of exclusion. The decision to halt LGBTQ+ initiatives prompted protest from resident Kjeld Mooi, who demonstrated with a rainbow flag following the coalition agreement's presentation. State Secretary Claudia van Bruggen will also be present at the event. The Oldebroek Coming Out Day celebration is held on Saturday to respect Sunday rest traditions, and rainbow flags are available for residents.
