Latvian environmental authorities have confirmed oil contamination in the Driksa River, a tributary of the Lielupe. The State Environmental Service (VVD) launched an investigation following public reports of suspected petroleum products in the water. During the inspection on July 28th, officials discovered a visible film consistent with oil pollutants. The source of the contamination is currently unknown and under investigation. This incident raises concerns about the ecological health of the Driksa and potentially the larger Lielupe River system. Further analysis will be conducted to determine the extent of the pollution and identify responsible parties. The VVD has not yet issued details on remediation efforts.
