A notorious Albanian criminal, dubbed the “master escapist,” has been apprehended in Spain after years on the run. Taulant Toma, 42, has successfully escaped from four European prisons – three in Italy and one in Belgium – using increasingly elaborate methods, including knotted sheets, a human pyramid, and even a file. Police in Tarragona recognized him despite a false identity due to his distinctive tattoos and a facial scar. He was last seen escaping a high-security prison in Rome in December 2025. His escapes have become legendary, with one involving inmates forming a human pyramid to allow him to scale a wall. Toma now faces extradition back to Italy to serve remaining prison sentences.
