Negotiations between oil service and well service companies and their workers have extended past the initial deadline, raising the threat of a strike on the Norwegian continental shelf. The original deadline was midnight Sunday into Monday, but mediation continued with the assistance of the National Mediator. Employer organization Offshore Norway confirmed the ongoing overtime talks. If an agreement isn’t reached, an initial strike involving 85 workers is planned, with a further 6,660 members of the Styrke union prepared to walk off the job. The potential strike could disrupt oil and gas production in Norway, a major energy supplier to Europe. The situation remains fluid as mediators attempt to secure a resolution.
