Negotiations between Norwegian construction unions and the employers’ organization NHO Byggenæringen have concluded successfully, averting a potential strike in the asphalt and road maintenance sector. The two unions, Norsk Arbeidsmandsforbund and Fellesforbundet, reached an agreement following mediation after initial negotiations broke down on May 12th. The deal ensures wage increases within the established “frontfagsrammen” – a framework for wage settlements intended to control inflation. Key aspects of the agreement include provisions regarding working hours and the advance payment of sick leave, parental leave, and care leave benefits. Union negotiator Lasse Helleland expressed satisfaction with the outcome, describing the process as challenging but ultimately successful in securing economic gains for members. The agreement covers workers involved in asphalt production and road maintenance across Norway. This resolution avoids disruption to crucial infrastructure projects during a busy construction season.
