Norwegian astronaut Jannicke Mikkelsen has been awarded the Peer Gynt Prize, a prestigious annual award voted on by the Norwegian Parliament. She received the honor for her pioneering work in space exploration and for embodying the spirit of pushing boundaries. Mikkelsen was the first astronaut with solely Norwegian citizenship to travel to space, participating in a SpaceX mission last year. Upon learning of the award, Mikkelsen expressed surprise and humility. The award was presented at the Peer Gynt Festival in Vinstra, Norway. She also shared a unique detail about space travel – the unsettling sensation of one’s brain floating inside the skull due to weightlessness. The committee highlighted her as an inspiration, demonstrating what is possible for Norway.
