Researchers have been unable to detect the presence of the endangered northern quoll despite a year-long monitoring effort in Litchfield National Park. Over 30 wildlife cameras were deployed throughout the park, collecting data for nearly 12 months. Despite extensive coverage, the elusive marsupial has not been captured on any of the cameras. Scientists expressed surprise, describing the northern quoll as “quite cute,” indicating the species' notable appearance. The lack of sightings raises concerns about the population status of the northern quoll within Litchfield National Park. Further investigation is needed to determine the reasons for the absence and to assess the animal’s ongoing conservation needs in the region. This data will inform future efforts to protect the struggling species.
