A wildfire that erupted in the Nomrog Protected Area in Mongolia is now contained after four days of firefighting efforts. The fire's origin is suspected to be linked to a vehicle belonging to a “Mobilcom” group team investigating the feasibility of expanding 4G network coverage to the Khalh Gol border guard zone and fiber optic connections to the Sumbur border crossing. Initial reports suggested the team was surveying the area for network infrastructure, but witness S. Delger alleges they were illegally hunting. Delger, a journalist and videographer for “Shine Suvag” TV in Dornod aimag, was filming a documentary about the 20th anniversary of the Nomrog Protected Area’s establishment when they encountered the blaze, having obtained permission from the General Border Authority. The incident occurred near the Sumbur Rashantyn border crossing, where Mobilcom had recently launched new network services. Investigations continue to determine the exact cause of the fire and verify the team's purpose in the protected area.
