Nigeria’s National Pension Commission (PenCom) and the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) are collaborating to include transport workers in the nation’s pension system. The partnership aims to enroll approximately nine million workers into the Personal Pension Plan under the Contributory Pension Scheme. This initiative was announced following a meeting between representatives of both organizations. Details of the plan’s implementation and contribution structure were not immediately disclosed. The move seeks to provide financial security for transport workers post-retirement, a sector largely unaddressed by formal pension schemes. PenCom initiated discussions with the NURTW to facilitate the enrollment process and ensure widespread participation. This expansion of pension coverage represents a significant step towards financial inclusion for a large segment of the Nigerian workforce.
