The Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) is intensifying efforts to eliminate unqualified engineers and fraudulent certifications within the country. This initiative follows growing concerns regarding building collapses and safety standards. COREN has established a dedicated rapid response task force and a disciplinary tribunal to investigate and prosecute individuals practicing engineering without proper accreditation. The move aims to safeguard public safety and ensure adherence to professional engineering standards. The council will focus on identifying and removing “quack engineers” from the industry, as well as invalidating fake certificates. This crackdown is a proactive measure to prevent future structural failures and protect citizens from potentially dangerous construction practices. COREN intends to rigorously enforce regulations and maintain the integrity of the engineering profession in Nigeria.
