A study by the Lima Chamber of Commerce (CCL) and the European Union reveals that a significant portion of “ni-nis” – young people neither employed nor in education or training – in Lima, Peru, are ready to enter the workforce. The research indicates that seven out of ten are prepared to take a job within 15 days. However, several barriers prevent their entry into the labor market, including discouragement and a lack of confidence. Past negative work experiences and responsibilities related to caregiving also contribute to the problem. The report identifies these obstacles as critical factors hindering youth employment in Lima. The CCL and the European Union hope the findings will inform policies aimed at improving access to job opportunities for young people in Peru.
