The Venezuelan NGO, Acceso a la Justicia, has presented a proposal to the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (CIDH) concerning the election of Supreme Court justices (TSJ). The organization argues that the current Organic Law of the Supreme Court of Justice deviates from the Venezuelan Constitution. According to the Constitution, candidate pre-selection should be handled exclusively by a Judicial Nominations Committee comprised solely of civil society representatives. Acceso a la Justicia is advocating for a more independent and constitutionally compliant selection process. They believe the current law undermines judicial independence. This proposal seeks to address concerns about political interference in the judiciary.
