New Zealand is urging businesses and teams to participate in ShakeOut 2026, a nationwide earthquake preparedness drill scheduled for 21 October at 1:30 PM. The initiative aims to ensure workplaces are ready to respond effectively should an emergency occur, emphasizing that preparation is key as emergencies are unpredictable. Participants will receive resources to conduct a successful drill and have the chance to win one of fifteen Civil Defence wheelie bins. Businesses can conduct their drills anytime between now and November to be eligible for the prize draw. Over 765,000 New Zealanders participated in the drill last year. Joining New Zealand ShakeOut is a proactive step towards improving overall community resilience and safety. The campaign highlights the importance of practicing safety procedures before a real event occurs.
