Newly purchased Alstom Traxx locomotives, costing over 90 million euros, may be unable to transport passengers in Romania due to issues with the country's railway infrastructure. The non-governmental organization Pro Infrastructură has warned that the trains are being stopped by the ETCS system, triggered by non-functional signaling installations operated by CFR. As of August 10th, five of the sixteen locomotives are affected, with potential for further disruptions. The problem highlights long-standing deficiencies in Romania’s rail network. Pro Infrastructură emphasizes the critical need for urgent repairs and modernization of the signaling systems. Failure to address these issues will significantly hinder the deployment and effectiveness of the new locomotives.
