While almost a record-breaking month for warmth, it was second only to June 2023, with an average temperature of 19.2°C, considerably higher than the expected 16.2°C. The month also saw above-average rainfall, reaching 85mm nationally, with substantial downpours during fluctuating weather patterns and severe thunderstorms. A heatwave began on June 18th, prompting orange and, for the first time, red heat alerts from the KNMI meteorological institute. Several temperature records were broken, including the warmest June nights and highest daytime temperatures ever recorded, reaching 39.4°C in Ell. The previous national record was surpassed at 11 KNMI measurement locations.
