Chitwan district in Nepal has long served as a pivotal location for national political gatherings, dating back to covert communist meetings during the Panchayat era. The region’s central location and accessibility have made it a favored venue for parties to hold conventions and shape the country’s political landscape. Most recently, the Rashtriya Swatantra Party (RSP) chose Chitwan to host its first national convention, continuing a decades-long tradition. This underscores Chitwan’s enduring significance in Nepal’s political evolution, having witnessed key moments in the nation’s journey from restricted political activity to more open democratic processes. The district has adapted to accommodate these events, evolving from simple thatch-hut venues to more substantial facilities, referred to locally as “German Hangers”. Chitwan’s role highlights its consistent importance as a space for political discourse and decision-making in Nepal.
