Nepal and India have reached an agreement to significantly increase electricity trade between the two countries. The deal allows Nepal to export an additional 550 megawatts (MW) of electricity to India, boosting its energy sector. This increased export will be facilitated through existing transmission lines – Dhalkebar–Muzaffarpur and Dhalkebar–Sitamarhi. The bilateral meeting focused on expanding both export and import capabilities to optimize power distribution. This agreement signifies strengthening energy cooperation between Nepal and India. The expanded trade is expected to benefit Nepal's economy and contribute to regional energy security. It also highlights the growing demand for electricity in India.
