On June 30th, the 1 German/Netherlands Corps (1GNC) will formally take over tactical command of land forces in Estonia and Latvia. This transfer of authority marks a shift from Multinational Corps Northeast, the previous command structure. The change involves the assumption of leadership responsibilities for military operations and training within the two Baltic nations. This move is a planned adjustment within NATO’s force structure and is not in response to any immediate security threat. The 1GNC is a joint German-Dutch military formation designed to enhance NATO’s readiness and capabilities in the region. The transition aims to streamline command and control, improving coordination and effectiveness of allied forces. This handover signifies continued commitment to collective defense in the Baltic states.
