NASA’s Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS) mission has confirmed the existence of two giant exoplanets orbiting the star TOI-791. These planets are comparable in size to Jupiter but possess extraordinarily low densities, leading researchers to describe them as “fluffy.” The findings, based on data analyzed by scientists, place these worlds among the least dense planets discovered to date. Their low density suggests a composition significantly different from typical gas giants, potentially with substantial atmospheres relative to their mass. TOI-791b and TOI-791c, as the planets are designated, offer a unique opportunity to study planetary formation and atmospheric properties. Further research will focus on understanding the factors contributing to their unusual characteristics and determining their precise composition. This discovery expands our understanding of the diversity of planets beyond our solar system.
