A Latvian mycologist is advising caution when foraging for mushrooms, particularly during dry spells. Diāna Meiere of the Latvian National Museum of Nature warns against consuming mushrooms that are old or appear damaged. She explained on Latvian Radio that even seemingly minor imperfections can lead to digestive problems. When mushrooms are scarce, the temptation to utilize less-than-perfect specimens increases, but the risk isn’t worth it. Meiere stresses the importance of only collecting and eating fresh, undamaged mushrooms. This advice aims to prevent potential health issues related to consuming compromised fungi. Prioritizing mushroom quality is crucial for safe foraging.
