Over 5,300 foreign nationals are currently held against their will in scam compounds located in Myanmar’s Myawaddy area. The Civil Society Network for Human Trafficking Victims Assistance (CSNHTV) has formally requested accelerated rescue operations from authorities. A letter submitted on June 22nd by CSNHTV coordinator Jay Kritiya highlights the urgency of the situation. The network is also calling for the dismantling of the criminal organizations operating these compounds. These compounds are reportedly involved in online scams and human trafficking. The ongoing lack of swift action raises concerns about the safety and well-being of those trapped. The CSNHTV continues to advocate for increased international cooperation to address this growing crisis.
