Elon Musk's Starlink is encountering difficulties securing approval to operate its satellite internet service in India. Frustrated by the delays, Musk publicly questioned whether Mukesh Ambani, India’s richest person, is the “de facto ruler” of India on his social media platform. This followed earlier accusations that influential Indian business groups were attempting to block Starlink's market entry. Musk specifically named Ambani, head of the Reliance Group which owns India’s largest mobile carrier, Jio. Indian officials have refuted Musk's criticism, stating that its satellite communication regulations are fair and non-discriminatory. Ambani and Reliance have yet to respond to Musk’s statements, while the dispute coincides with preparations by Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel to launch their own satellite internet services, intensifying competition in the India market.
