Mongolia’s Parliament’s Legal Standing Committee held a session today with 64.3% attendance to elect a new chair. Following the resignation of former chair D. Tsogtbaatar, the Mongolian People’s Party nominated MP L. Mönkhbaatar for the position, as announced by faction leader Zh. Batjargal. Several MPs, including B. Bayarbaatar, O. Altangerel, P. Sainzorig, and S. Odontuyaa, voiced support for the nomination, praising the committee’s productivity and Tsogtbaatar’s effective leadership during the initial years of the 126-member parliament. The vote resulted in 76.2% of attending members supporting Mönkhbaatar’s appointment. Mönkhbaatar has a long career in law and public service, including roles in the Ministry of Justice, the General Agency for Civil Registration, and as an advisor to the Prime Minister and the Mongolian People’s Party. He also led the “Khuvsgul Development” fund.
