Inhambane province, Mozambique is accelerating infrastructure rehabilitation efforts in preparation to host the national phase of the 2026 School Games, a major youth sporting event. The competition, scheduled for August and September, is expected to draw over 1600 students from across the country. Provincial authorities report that preparations are on schedule, with some venues already ready and others undergoing improvements to meet technical, safety, and functional standards. Venues selected were chosen based on their condition and ability to accommodate the competition’s demands, including the Sagrada Família court for volleyball and the Maxixe Municipal Stadium for men’s football. The Ferroviário de Inhambane field is planned for women’s football, but requires pitch improvements currently coordinated with Mozambique Railways. A key priority is the rehabilitation of the September 7th athletics track, including wall reconstruction and full track restoration.
