Mozambique’s national electricity company, Electricidade de Moçambique (EDM), is celebrating its 49th anniversary. A workshop was held to commemorate the occasion and to initiate celebrations leading up to its 50th anniversary. During the workshop, EDM was challenged to implement measures to address the growing impacts of climate change. Founded during a period of conflict in 1977, EDM is vital to the country’s energy infrastructure. The government is pushing for the company to adapt its operations and strategies to mitigate risks posed by extreme weather events. This call to action underscores the increasing importance of climate resilience within Mozambique’s essential services. The focus is on ensuring a sustainable and reliable power supply in the face of a changing climate.
