Mozambique’s President Daniel Chapo announced a national plan to expand 5G technology to all provincial capitals, special economic zones, and major tourist destinations by 2027. The initiative is part of a broader strategy for digital transformation, viewed by the President as crucial for development, sovereignty, and social justice. The government is implementing institutional reforms, strategic investments, and connectivity expansion across the country, including the creation of agencies focused on digital transformation and artificial intelligence. A key component is the “Internet for All” program, aiming for universal internet access by 2030. Current investments include $50 million for rural connectivity, benefiting approximately 4.4 million citizens through 60 new base stations and expanded services to over 300 locations. Additionally, over $20 million will be invested in improving school connectivity and creating new IT labs.
