Mozambique’s National Petroleum Institute (INP) and Tanzania’s Petroleum Upstream Regulatory Authority (PURA) have agreed to strengthen collaboration on regulating the petroleum sector. The agreement, signed in Maputo, aims to enhance capacity building, knowledge sharing, and best practice exchange between the two nations. Key areas of focus include technical expertise, safety standards, and environmental protection within oil and gas operations. This partnership comes as both countries develop their offshore gas resources, particularly in the Rovuma Basin. Officials from both institutes highlighted the importance of coordinated regulation to attract investment and ensure sustainable development of the sector. The initiative seeks to improve regulatory frameworks and promote regional energy security. This collaboration is expected to foster a more stable and predictable investment climate for oil and gas companies operating in both Mozambique and Tanzania.
