Following recent clashes, Mozambique’s Republican Police (PRM) confiscated 67 motorcycles in the city of Tete during a targeted enforcement operation. The operation, conducted across strategic locations, aimed to regulate motorcycle activity and improve road traffic law compliance. Multiple PRM units, including traffic police and rapid intervention forces, were deployed. Authorities stated the action is part of a broader effort to reduce motorcycle-related traffic accidents in the Tete province, a significant concern for public safety. While some support the increased enforcement as a safety measure, other motorcycle taxi operators argue for prior sensitization and warning periods to allow for legal compliance. The PRM intends to continue these operations until Tete achieves a national benchmark for reducing motorcycle-related road accidents.
