Mozambique’s Prosecutor General’s Office (PRG) has released a practical manual designed to assist legal professionals with criminal appeals. The 80-page guide provides magistrates, lawyers, and other justice operators with clear procedures for filing and substantiating criminal appeals in court. According to the manual’s coordinator, Ribeiro Cuna, the resource aims to enhance the technical skills of justice sector professionals and promote rigorous legal practice. The manual emphasizes the importance of well-founded appeals, discouraging their use as delaying tactics. It clarifies that appeals are mandatory in cases involving sentences of 10 years or more, ensuring review by higher courts. The PRG intends for the guide to complement the Criminal Procedure Code and improve understanding of appeal procedures.
