The World Health Organization (WHO) is seeking $21.5 million to support nearly 539,000 people affected by recent floods in southern and central Mozambique. Mozambique is currently grappling with a complex humanitarian crisis, compounded by both climate shocks and armed conflict, significantly impacting public health. The floods have displaced populations, damaged health infrastructure, and increased the risk of waterborne disease outbreaks, disrupting essential healthcare services. A recent assessment indicates approximately 619,627 individuals require assistance, prompting the launch of a humanitarian response plan. The WHO’s plan focuses on three objectives, monitored through 15 indicators, and aims to reach 538,725 beneficiaries across 18 districts in Gaza, Sofala, Maputo province, and Maputo City. Simultaneously, Mozambique faces ongoing insecurity in Cabo Delgado province, further straining already fragile health systems and causing continued displacement.
