Mozambique and Norway marked 50 years of energy cooperation at a seminar in Maputo, highlighting its impact on expanding electricity access and sustainable development. The partnership, beginning in 1977, has been crucial for Mozambique’s energy sector transformation, funding projects like power plant construction and national grid expansion, particularly in rural areas. Norway’s support also contributed to disaster resilience funds and specialized training for Mozambican energy workers. A key success is the “Energy for All” program (ProEnergia), which increased household electricity access from 36.8% in 2020 to 66.9% as of March 2026. The Norwegian ambassador emphasized achievements over the last decade, including new transmission lines, regional interconnections, and infrastructure rehabilitation. The seminar featured discussions on ongoing and future collaborative projects.
