Two mechanics in Touba, Senegal, have been sentenced to two years in prison for a series of motorcycle thefts. T. Mbaye, 23, and A. Faye, 32, used their garage as a front for their criminal activities, targeting motorcycles – primarily Jakarta models – during the day and stealing them at night. A recent theft on April 24th, involving a motorcycle stolen from outside a roadside eatery, led to a chase by other motorcycle drivers who intercepted the suspects before alerting authorities. The pair confessed to the crimes and expressed remorse during their trial at the Diourbel Court of Summary Procedure. Despite pleas for leniency, the court upheld the prosecution’s request for a significant sentence, resulting in a two-year prison term for each mechanic. Investigations revealed the duo’s involvement in the theft of over ten motorcycles.
