Morocco has launched a national program to rehabilitate 100 historic “ksour” and “kasbahs” – fortified villages – across the country by 2030. The initiative aims to preserve these culturally significant sites and benefit over 40,000 residents. A first phase, completed at a cost of 511 million dirhams, focused on 22 sites. The Ministry of Housing is now preparing agreements for further restoration work in Ouarzazate, Tinghir, Zagora, and Figuig. The total investment for the program is estimated at 2.5 billion dirhams. This effort underscores Morocco’s commitment to safeguarding its unique architectural heritage and supporting local communities. The program is expected to boost tourism and economic activity in these regions.
