Moroccan startup z.systems is integrating the CMI’s Fatourati multichannel platform to enable nearly 16,000 small retailers to accept digital payments via banking apps or digital wallets. Currently, over 99% of purchases from these retailers are conducted in cash. This system bypasses the need for traditional point-of-sale (POS) terminals and acquisition contracts, lowering barriers to entry for small businesses. The initiative aims to facilitate immediate reinvestment of funds, addressing liquidity concerns within the local economy. Z.systems intends to transform smartphones into payment devices, expanding digital financial inclusion. The move is expected to modernize transactions for neighborhood shops and boost economic activity. This development represents a significant step towards a cashless retail environment in Morocco.
